Shloka 1:

Shuklaam bharatharam vishnum shashi varnam chathurbhujam
Prasanna vadanam dyayeth sarva vighna upashaanthaye

प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये ॥

Meaning :

In order to remove all the obstacles, one should meditate upon Lord Ganesha who is wearing a white garment (dhoti), who is omnipresent, who has a face which is bright colored like the moon, who has four hands and who has a smiling or pleasant countenance.

The white garment Ganesha wears symbolizes purity. This mantra is mainly chanted before starting any new endeavor so that any obstacle that may cause a hindrance could be removed.

अगजानन पद्मार्कम् गजाननम् अहर्निशम्
अनेक दम् तम् भक्तानाम् एकदन्तम् उपास्महे

Meaning

This is a beautiful sloka on Lord Ganesha.

Parvati's face lit up bright when she saw her son Gajaanana all the time just like the lotus flower which blooms as the suns rays falls on it. I meditate upon this God who is single tusked and is the giver of all boons and wishes to his devotees.

Aga is the antonym of ga ( something that moves ) which means something that does not move like the mountain. Ja means born from. So agaja means born out of a mountain. Parvathy is the daughter of Himavat, Lord of Himalayas from which she got the name Shailaja, Shailaputri etc.
